Meet Ravon: The GM Brand That Few People Know About
If you’re a fan of GM, you’re likely familiar with models like the GMC Yukon and Chevy Silverado. You’re likely less familiar about one of the company’s more obscure sub-brands: Ravon. Enjoy stumping your car geek friends with this random piece of trivia, the next time anyone brings up GM models.
A brief history of Ravon
Per GM Authority, Ravon’s inception occurred back in 1992. Korean automaker Daewoo Motors partnered with Uzbek commercial venture Uzavtosanoat. Dubbed Uz-Daewoo Auto Co., this venture assembled and sold Daewoo vehicles to Uzbekistan locals.
In 2002, GM took over Daewoo Motors, officially terminating the Daewoo brand. A few years later, in 2005, Uzavtosanoat bought it’s former partner’s share in Uz-Daewoo Auto Co.
This company later established a joint venture with General Motors in 2008. They called the venture GM Uzbekistan, with the goal of producing and selling GM models in this region.
2015 is when the Ravon brand officially emerged. GM Uzbekistan announced the Ravon badge to market new and modern GM vehicles at affordable prices to suit a wider customer base.

Current Ravon models
Though not as extensive as some other country’s model lineup, Ravon’s lineup consists of just four vehicles: Ravon R2, Nexia R3, Ravon R4, and Gentra. Similar to GM’s partnership with Baojun in China, GM Uzbekistan’s Ravon models take their cue from Chevy vehicles. For instance, the Ravon R2 is a spin-off of the Chevy Spark. Additionally, the Ravon Nexia R3 is a version of the Chevy Aveo. The Ravon R4 is a reinvention of the Chevy Cobalt, while the Ravon Gentra is a reinvention of the Chevy Lacetti.
