Meet Vulog, a Progressive Car-Sharing Platform

Though you might be familiar with emerging car-sharing programs such as Zipcar and Enterprise Car Share, you might be unfamiliar with a car-sharing platform called Vulog. (And, no, it’s not a type of Russian soup…) This up-and-coming enterprise recently made an appearance at CES 2019.

Per Alex Thibault, Vulog’s general manager for North America, this group defines itself as a technology company, rather than a car-sharing company. Unlike other car-sharing programs, Vulog doesn’t advertise its name on vehicles using the platform. Instead, the company prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

It supplies a variety of entities with the technology and equipment they need to run a car-sharing service. The goal is to continue partnering with diverse clients, from non-profits to car dealers to automakers.

Some professionals in the auto industry might perceive car-sharing programs as a business threat. However, Thibault views the car-sharing niche as an extension of the auto industry. “It’s really not that people are going to stop owning vehicles, it’s that they’ll be smarter.” Just as ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft have given consumers more transportation options, so will the car-sharing services that Vulog helps jumpstart.

The company is set to expand its enterprise toward the end of this year. We anticipate more news in the days ahead as Vulog helps automakers and other entities venture into this new submarket of alternative vehicle ownership.
