The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index, WIN for short, analyzes companies’ commitment to gender diversity among employees. WIN evaluates companies based on key gender diversity information, which includes the ratio of women in management positions, the ratio of women who are hired, and the potential for growth that is sustainable in the long run.

One of the main purposes of WIN is to help the Government Pension Investment effectively utilize investments for social, environmental, and corporate governance purposes. In other words, the GPIF could help where it appears gender diversity is lacking.

By being considered a constituent by MSCI, Mitsubishi Motors is making it clear that they care about gender diversity within the company. In fact, Mitsubishi has been very active in constructing an environment where employee diversity is respected.

In July of 2014, Mitsubishi Motors launched the Diversity Promotion Policy. As a result, Diversity @ Mitsubishi Motors New Drive went into effect and created activities that help foster a better workplace for all.

Specifically helping women, Mitsubishi Motors also follows the Act on the Promotion of Female Participation and Career Advancement in the Workplace. Mitsubishi wants to encourage the career development of women, while also supporting women who want to both work and have children.

By the end of the 2020 fiscal year, Mitsubishi Motors hopes to have 100 women hold management positions. It’s great knowing that an automotive company cares so much about gender diversity.
