Myride2 Gives Michigan Seniors Greater Mobility

Some transportation services cater to working professionals who prefer to not own a car. Other services are focusing on providing transportation for seniors and special needs individuals. Myride2 falls into this category. Based in Michigan, this service currently helps residents in Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties by connecting them with the transportation they need.
To put it simply, Myride2 is a platform with a toll free number people can call. A representative on the other end of the phone line will connect them with public transportation options near them. Myride2 partners with private providers like Uber, Lyft, and GoGoGrandparent, among others, to offer residents a wider range of choices.
Myride2 has a free Travel Training program. Seniors and special needs individuals can attend sessions to master the art of planning out public transportation and how to read a bus schedule. They’ll also learn how to take advantage of the Smart Connector Service which offers curb-to-curb transportation.

Once residents go through training, they then participate in a test trip with one of the travel trainers, to make sure they feel comfortable using the system. “This gives them independence because sometimes we find seniors and people with disabilities that are willing to take public transit, but they don’t know how to use it,” said Deb Price-Ryan, one of the organization’s travel trainers.
Though Myride2 is a free service, those who use it do have to pay a fee for each trip. It’s a small price to pay however for easier access to public transportation and the organization’s commitment to providing quality service to residents.
