New Patent Reveals Cadillac CT5 Coupe Design

On July 3, while many Americans celebrated an early Independence Day, GM was celebrating another achievement. The design patent it filed back in early 2017 for a “vehicle body exterior” was granted an official patent number from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on this day (patent number D821,923).

Although the design patent doesn’t explicitly mention the word “Cadillac,” the six images attached in the patent clearly portray a coupe model from the automaker.

According to the patent, Australian-based Jaehoon Lee gets the credit for inventing the model. He works at General Motors in Melbourne as a Creative Designer, while also boasting a past position with GM Korea on his resume.

Pre-Owned vs. CPO Cadillac Vehicles: Discover which option is best for you

News of a potential CT5 coupe provides an exciting distraction from the current hubbub of excitement about the mid-October arrival of the 2019 Cadillac XT4. Despite the industry’s overall trend of declining sedan sales, the recent patent for a two-door Cadillac indicates that the brand might not be giving up on this vehicle category yet.

If the brand does add the CT5 coupe to its lineup in the near future, it might possibly incorporate the semi-autonomous Super Cruise system. After all, GM”s product chief Mark Reuss recently claimed that this technology will be available on every Cadillac model by 2020.

Although Cadillac has yet to reveal the performance specs and range of features the CT5 coupe will offer, this model will likely manifest the latest luxury features, driver assist technology, and energetic performance characteristic of current models.
