While usually cars that small are more about getting from place to place than driving fun, the automaker has turned the affordable car into a racing opportunity. This weekend marks the first summer event in the Nissan Micra Cup, and the racers are heading to Quebec to prove their skill. If you’re up for a road trip, racing runs on Saturday and Sunday, July 28-29, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

Small yet fun

The 2018 Nissan Micra is a tiny car, even smaller than the U.S.’ Nissan Versa Note. It starts at just 9,988 Canadian dollars ($7,648), making it an affordable option for shoppers that are more concerned with driving than all the latest gadgets (although it has several trim levels that don’t skimp on the extras). While you might think that a small price means lower quality, the Micra bucked that stereotype when it won a Best Buy award from The Car Guide 2018 in the City Car category.

Start your engines

Since the consumer Nissan Micra is so affordable, it was a great candidate to become an entry-level race car. The Motorsports in Action team in St-Eustache prepares each Micra purchased to participate in the Nissan Micra Cup. All of the standard features, like seats, door panels, and steering wheel, are stripped away to make room for racing equipment.
