Nissan Sales Performance Breaks May Records
Nissan sales performance and global production were record-breaking for the month of May, according to figures released by the Japanese automaker. Production increased 10.6 percent year-over-year to 426,223 units and sales increased 8.4 percent to 442,967 units, marking an all-time record for May.
In the United States, the high demand for the new Rogue drove production up to a record 15.8 percent. The sales performance, however, was even more impressive: multiple Nissan models—including the LEAF, Altima, Sentra, Rogue, and Versa—set personal May records to boost Nissan sales up a whopping 18.8 percent over the prior year.
The most notable models were the LEAF and the Altima. With a 45.8 percent increase to 3,117 sales, the LEAF passed the 50,000 total sales mark in the U.S. since launch and continued to establish itself as the leading electric vehicle. Meanwhile, the Altima had the largest sales increase of any car in the midsize category at 36,053, up 12.9 percent.
