The Summer Olympic Games, set for this year in Rio, Brazil, will begin 100 days from today. In Greece’s Panathenaic Stadium, an elaborate ceremony was held to light the Olympic torch and begin the relay that will take the flame to more than 300 towns and cities in the hands of more than 12,000 torchbearers. Nine pairs of hands will belong to Nissan UK employees, according to Nissan Insider.

The group has picked up the moniker “The Nissan Nine,” and will represent the automaker in the torch relay. Nissan is the official automotive partner of Rio 2016, so it’s not surprising that staff have the opportunity to participate. Each employee was nominated by their coworkers, and represents the best Nissan has to offer, whether at work or in their personal lives.

The spots were offered to Nissan UK by the Brazilian arm of the manufacturer, but at this time it is unclear if Nissan Brazil has its own team of runners in the relay. Each employee will hold the torch for about 200 meters in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, the sixth largest in Brazil.

The nine torchbearers to represent Nissan UK are Gillian Dixon, Charles Lavington, Neil Balderson, Tony Lewis, Mark Coupe, Carlos Sanjuan Pastoriza, Maggie Orme, Mark Pagett, and Ian Blackman. The employees represent many unique parts of Nissan’s business, from sales, to administration, to engineering, and to the administrative staff. We’ll certainly be on the lookout for these Nissan stars as the world prepares for the Olympic Games.
