May turned out to be an incredible month for Subaru, as its overall sales soared to 63,972 units, which was an increase of 6.4 percent from this time last year. Year-to-date, sales are sitting at 278,014 — a considerable 5.7 percent higher than May of 2018. Most of this success can be attributed to high sales numbers for the Forester, Outback, and Ascent.

Award-Winning Lineup: Subaru keeps getting more and more accolades

Following an outstanding April sales month, Subaru saw sales for the Forester go from 14,782 to 16,028 while sales for the Outback also increased from 16,381 to 18,017 in May. While the Ascent is still fairly new to the lineup, it managed to increase its sales numbers as well, jumping from 6,512 units sold in April to 7,509 last month.

“Coming off of a record-breaking April, we are excited to continue the momentum in May with a milestone 90th month of consecutive sales increases,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc. “We have a dedicated group of retailers who have made these results possible and are the true strength of our brand. While we are humbled by record May sales, we remain proud to deliver reliable vehicles with new, innovative technology in an increasingly competitive market.”

Not only was May a record-breaking month for the company in terms of total units sold, it was also the 63rd consecutive month that the automaker sold more than 40,000 vehicles. Also worth noting is the increase of Crosstrek sales from April to May, which went from a moderate 9,319 to 11,551. The only vehicles that saw decreases month-to-month were the performance models, WRX/STI and BRZ. However, the numbers for those models only dropped by 87 and 56, respectively.
