In his career, Chevrolet racecar driver Jimmie Johnson has won six championships and 77 races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, but it may be the work that he’s done for charity that defines his legacy above all else.
On August 7th, at the NASCAR event at Watkins Glen International, Johnson will race with a special paint job on his car that pays tribute to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. This special paint scheme was a donation from Johnson’s longtime sponsor Lowes and was recently revealed via Twitter.

Johnson launched this foundation with his wife, Chandra, back in 2006. The main purpose of the charity is to raise and distribute money to schools in need. In the years since its inception, the charity has raised more than $8 million according to its official site. Those funds have been distributed to schools in the states of North Carolina, California, and Oklahoma. In addition, organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation have also been aided by the Jimmie Johnson Foundation.
Johnson has raced with the name of his foundation on his racecar once a year since 2006. He’s won three Sprint Cup Series races sporting the special paint job. However, he’s never won at the road course in Watkins Glen, which is the track where the specially-painted Jimmie Johnson Foundation Chevrolet will compete this year.
In 2016, the 40-year-old Johnson has already won two Sprint Cup Series races and is currently fourth in the overall point standings.
Johnson and the rest of the NASCAR drivers will be in action next at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 17th. The race is scheduled to begin at 1:30pm and will be broadcast by NBCSN.
