More Rideshare Companies Give Parents a Break From Chauffeuring Their Kids Around
If you’re a parent with a full-time job, you’re likely familiar with the challenges of balancing your professional schedule with your family’s schedule. Chauffering kids to after-school programs and activities can definitely be time-consuming. Some rideshare companies have recognized this need and are starting to provide solutions.

A growing trend
Kango, Zum, and HopSkipDrive are three of the primary companies that are starting to cater to rideshares for kids. As of now, these companies’ drivers have transported more than 1.4 million children in states such as Colorado and Washington, D.C., as well as Texas. Though, the companies hope to expand their child-focused services to more states in the future.
Safety concerns
Per Autoblog, these child-focused rideshare companies use a thorough screening process for drivers. For instance, they typically have to have previous childcare experience and undergo background checks. The rideshare apps also have a function that lets parents track their children’s location in real-time. The services also supply matching passwords to each driver and child passenger, as an extra measure of protection.
Joanna McFarland, CEO and co-founder of HopSkipDrive, articulated her company’s acknowledgment of parental skepticism with rideshare services. “As a parent, you may not know your child’s friends’ parents or you may not know who the bus driver is. It’s really no different. But with this, you have that tracking capability, and you know they’ve gone through that vetting process.”
Considering the affordability of the service
Besides safety, another obstacle the new service will have to address is affordability. Depending on how many times a parent needs to call a rideshare for their child during a given week, the service could be a pricey one for some parents. However, for those that can afford the extra expense, the convenience and extra time the service offers might be worth it.
