Signs A Dealership Isn’t Worth Your Time And What To Look For Instead
Negotiating a deal on a car isn’t easy. You’re dealing with experts who probably know way more than you do when it comes to car financing, vehicle pricing, and negotiations. Even if you’re well-versed in the art of car deals, it’s easy to get caught up or bowled over by a salesperson who appears to, but in reality, doesn’t have your best interests at heart. Here’s a few signs from Edmunds.com senior consumer editor Philip Reed of when it’s time to move to another dealership.

If you’re dealing with a rotating staff of salespeople, you should probably say good-bye to all of them.
“This means you are dealing with a ‘turnover house.’ Turnover is a style of selling where they keep throwing a salesman at you until you are worn down and sign the contract ‘just to get it over with,’” warns Reed.
If your salesperson rephrases the maximum monthly payment you’re willing to pay to include the words, “up to,” you might find yourself unintentionally agreeing to pay more than you wanted to, he adds.
If you’re at the dealership, odds are you’ve done serious research and have your heart set on a specific vehicle. If a salesperson ignores your request, it’s clear you won’t be leaving in the ride you wanted.
“Salesmen are instructed to ‘sell from stock,’ which means they are expected to sell whatever they have on the car lot. This means they might try to convince you that the economy model you wanted in blue isn’t going to make you as popular as the luxury model in champagne gold with all the options, writes Reed.
If you feel intimidated or uncomfortable during any part of the car-buying/negotiating process, it’s okay to leave.

“The mark of a good salesman is one who listens to your needs and does his best to fulfill them. If you don’t have this kind of rapport with your salesman, it will be a long and difficult process,” adds Reed.
