While other auto companies struggle to stay ahead of their own curves, Subaru is breaking records. The Japanese automaker reported 64,088 vehicle sales for August 2018 in the United States, up 1.4 percent over August 2017, its best-ever performance for any given month in its history (the record had previously been held by December 2017 with 63,342 vehicle sales).

Subaru of America also reported year-to-date sales of 446,374 vehicles, marking a 5.3 percent increase over the same eight-month period in 2017, as well as its 54th consecutive month of sales exceeding the 40,000 mark.

The Impreza and BRZ performance cars demonstrated the greatest improvements: the former was up 9.3 percent to mark its best-ever August, and the latter was up 13.7 percent over the same month in 2017. The new three-row Ascent SUV also had a good debut with 4,235 vehicles sold.

The Outback and Forester SUVs nonetheless remained Subaru’s bestsellers. Just over 18,000 Outbacks were sold last month and just under 15,500 Foresters, though sales for both declined compared to 2017.

“We are proud to celebrate the all-time best sales month in the history of the Subaru franchise with our dedicated retailers, employees and independent distributors,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and CEO, Subaru of America, Inc. “We know that customers have a lot of options when shopping for a car and we are honored that they select Subaru as their vehicle of choice — it is a testament to the trust we have established with new and returning customers.”
