Taxi! Ford Reveals 2019 Fusion Hybrid Taxi, Transit Connect Taxi

Hailing a cab may seem like a less chic choice for getting around with the advent of ride-sharing and other ride-hailing services, but Ford is looking to help cabbies get a bit of their old swagger back. The introduction of the 2019 Ford Transit Connect Taxi and 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid Taxi will give cab drivers around the country the chance to stand out from the pool and save quite a pretty penny on fuel.
“Taxi operators want vehicles that are reliable, efficient, and comfortable,” said Imran Jalal, brand and communications manager for Ford fleet marketing. “Transit Connect Taxi and Fusion Hybrid Taxi offer all three with special attention to potentially help lower fuel costs. Plus, Fusion Hybrid underscores our commitment to introduce even more efficient and capable hybrids in the future.”

The 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid Taxi is the most fuel-efficient purpose-built taxi ever built, sharing common components with the pursuit-rated Ford Police Responder Hybrid such as a specially tuned suspension with high performance brakes and steel wheels. The Fusion Hybrid Taxi will also be offered with a standard rearview camera, instrument panel mounting plate for meters and equipment, and, of course, available School Bus Yellow paint. It’s expected that the Fusion Hybrid Taxi will deliver comparable fuel economy, which would put it right around 40 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 38 mpg in combined use.
2019 Ford Transit Connect Taxi
The Transit Connect Taxi will be available with Ford’s 1.5-liter EcoBlue diesel engine, which should allow it to return at least 30 mpg on the highway. It will offer seating for up to five, more than 60 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, and dual sliding side doors, and can also be upfitted for wheelchair access through the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier program. Naturally, the 2019 Ford Transit Connect Taxi will also be offered in School Bus Yellow.
The EcoBlue-equipped 2019 Transit Connect Taxi will be available to order “soon.” The Fusion Hybrid Taxi, as well as the Transit Connect Taxi equipped with the 2.0-liter GDI inline four-cylinder engine, are available to order now.
