2014 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year Nominees Announced | The News Wheel

Let’s face it: 2013 was the year of the Stingray. I’m not ashamed to admit it, and nor should you be. The C7 Corvette completely dominated last year, easily raking in the most auto awards doled out all year. Among them were the North American Car of the Year, Automobile Magazine’s Automobile of the Year, and the very award with which this article has concerned itself, Road & Track’s Performance Car of the Year.

While GM may have dominated the award circuit last year thanks to the successes of the Stingray, the General only has one model in the 15 finalists for the Performance Car of the Year award, the Camaro Z/28. (Check out the full list of 2014 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year nominees below.)

The 2014 Corvette Stingray, winner of last year’s Performance Car of the Year award

All this week, Road & Track will be testing out the 15 nominees on the roads and on the company’s own private airport test track, called the Motown Mile.

And so, without further ado, the finalists vying for the 2014 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year title:

The Alfa Romeo 4C

Chevy Traps Some People in an Elevator

The BMW M235i

The BMW M3

The Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The Dodge Viper TA 2.0

The Ferrari 458 Speciale

The Ford Mustang

The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

The Lexus RC F

The Mini Cooper S

The Nissan GT-R Nismo

The Porsche 911 GT3

The Subaru WRX STI

The Volkswagen GTI

Personally, my money is on the Challenger SRT Hellcat, just because of all the rave reviews that baby’s gotten. I mean, have you heard it roar? The 2015 Mustang was also groundbreaking, though, and I’d love to see a win from VW. The Bimmers on the list are also good picks.

Clearly, I’m indecisive, so I turn it to you. Who do you think should take home the crown? Let me hear your thoughts below.
