There’s a new Technology package for the 2014 RAV4, which offers a blind-spot monitoring system with a lane departure warning system and automatic high-beam control.

Gone is the boxy RAV4 of yore. With the 2014 model year, expressive styling, refined lines, and a sleek silhouette come together to create an appealing crossover impossible to pass up. The slightly curved headlight and grille design makes it seem as if the car is always happy to see you, while the subtle curves lead you to a rear end that surprises you with its sharp angles.

For power, the 2014 RAV4 looks to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The crossover is able to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 9.2 seconds with the help of a standard six-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired with either a front-wheel-drive or an available all-wheel-drive system.

Fuel economy for the front-wheel-drive RAV4 comes in at an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined, while the all-wheel-drive model hits 25 mpg combined.

A sleek, modernized dashboard comes together with good quality materials to create a welcoming, yet refined atmosphere throughout the cabin. Toyota’s Entune system is available in each RAV4, though the XLE and Limited models are the only ones with the navigation system that includes the Entune suite of smartphone-connected services. Overall, there’s plenty of room throughout the crossover with a reclining rear seat that doesn’t hinder one of the largest cargo bays in the crossover segment.

The Toyota RAV4 received four out of five possible stars for overall protection in government crash tests, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the RAV4 its top rating of “Good.” Antilock disc brakes, a rearview camera, stability and traction control, whiplash-reducing front head restraints, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags all come standard in the crossover, along with a driver knee airbag.
