2015 Volkswagen Golf Named Green Car Reports’ Best Car To Buy 2015
Just a week after the 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI was awarded the title of Yahoo Autos Car of the Year, the rest of the Golf family has gotten its due after being named Green Car Reports’ Best Car to Buy 2015. The VW Golf lineup includes the Golf TDI Clean Diesel model (30/45 mpg city/highway with manual transmission), the Golf TSI (25/37 mpg city/highway), and Volkswagen’s first all-electric vehicle, the Shatner-approved e-Golf (126/105 MPGe city/highway). 2015 Volkswagen Golf: Green Car Reports’ Best Car To Buy 2015
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf bested the Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Sonata Eco, Honda Fit, and Audi A3 TDI for the publication’s official Best Car To Buy 2015 recommendation. Previous winners of the award include the Nissan LEAF in 2011, the Toyota Prius range in 2012, the Tesla Model S in 2013, and last year’s Honda Accord Hybrid.
“The range of green options in the 2015 Volkswagen Golf range is hard to beat,” explained Green Car Reports editor John Voelcker. “With more fuel-efficient gasoline engines, a new TDI diesel option that comes close to real-world hybrid mileage levels, and the all-electric VW e-Golf, the 2015 Golf gives buyers a good-better-best menu of options for driving green.”
Green Car Reports also praised the fun-to-drive elements found in each Golf model, including e-Golf, which Voelcker called the most “normal” electric vehicle he’d ever driven. “Take a relative who doesn’t know much about cars for a ride in either the Golf TDI or the e-Golf, and he or she may never notice the different powerplant,” he said, adding that, “sometimes being greener in a car that’s otherwise entirely normal can be a good thing.”
