2017 BMW 5 Series Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating From the IIHS
BMW seems to be presenting the 2017 BMW 5 Series as a highlight of its lineup. That’s for good reason, as the BMW 5 Series is currently collecting an assortment of awards and honors from all corners of the industry.
The 5 Series recently added another title to its collection, as the IIHS awarded the 2017 BMW 5 Series its Top Safety Pick+ rating.
The BMW 5 Series performed well during the five basic crash tests that the IIHS operates: the small overlap front test, the moderate overlap front test, the side crash test, the roof strength test, and the head restraints test. The vehicle even earned a “Good” rating during the organization’s rigorous headlights performance test, which is no easy feat.
BMW created the body and structure design of the BMW 5 Series to absorb the impact of any major crash. As a result, there was only a total of 5 inches maximum intrusion at the footrest of the vehicle during the IIHS small overlap front crash test.
However, the IIHS was most impressed by the 5 Series’ optional front crash prevention system. The system, which includes City Collision Mitigation or Extended Collision Mitigation, earned a “Superior” rating from the IIHS.
You can see how the 2017 BMW 5 Series performed during the small overlap test in the video below:
The 2017 BMW 5 Series is not the first BMW vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating so far this year. Both the 2017 BMW 3 Series and 2017 BMW 2 Series earned the same rating from the IIHS in January.
If you were on the fence on whether or not to buy a 2017 BMW 5 Series vehicle, you can now add safety to its list of benefits.
