Last week, a 2017 Ford GT Heritage Edition went up on the block at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction. (And legally, too!) This good-‘n’-legal auction resulted in a final gavel price of $1.54 million, making it the most expensive vehicle auctioned at Barrett-Jackson’s annual Sin City event.

Unlike previous unsanctioned auctions, this particular opportunity was good and legal thanks to the end of the purchase agreement that mandates original Ford GT owners keep the vehicles for two years. This was not the first time, however, that a Ford GT has crossed the block with Barrett-Jackson: In 2018, a Liquid Blue Ford GT raised $2.5 million at the Scottsdale auction, and Rick Hendrick bought the VIN 001 2019 GT Heritage Edition at the 2019 Scottsdale auction for the same total.

Cheaper and Friendlier for the Fam? Why not try the 2019 Ford Ranger instead — it’s definitely easier to find

While those two previous Barrett-Jackson auctions were for charitable causes, this one was from a private seller. And that particular seller is now likely rolling in it: Even with the addition of the likely pricey Heritage Edition package, the $1.54 auction price is probably pretty close to a million bucks more than the original sale price.

According to Road & Track, the ’66 Heritage Edition, wrapped in a livery honoring the car that won Le Mans 1966, had just 30 miles on the odometer. Hopefully whoever bought the thing actually, ya know, drives it a bit.

With the end of the original two-year purchase agreements coming up, you can expect to see more examples of the Ford GT going up for grabs. Ford’s agreement for GT buyers became the subject of controversy when John Cena sold his Liquid Blue GT well ahead of the two-year minimum, resulting in a lawsuit and a general lockdown of unsanctioned auctions through a settlement with Mecum.
