The 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric

The 2019 Hyundai Kona and Kona Electric reeled in another award earlier this month: Car and Driver’s Best Subcompact SUV.

With that honor, the Kona also claimed a spot on the magazine’s annual 10Best Trucks and SUVs list. It’s the first time a Hyundai crossover has won a 10Best recognition.

“We are thrilled the editors of Car and Driver recognized the Kona and Kona Electric models as CUVs worthy of their highest recommendation,” said Mike O’Brien, Hyundai Motor America’s vice president of product, corporate, and digital planning. “Kona is an affordable, stylish, and functional compact CUV, tailored to the needs of customers who pursue active lifestyles of all kinds. Even more, Car and Driver is both highly discerning and selective, so their recognition of Kona as a 10Best winner is certainly a strong indicator of Kona product line excellence.”

In awarding the Kona and Kona Electric, Car and Driver singled out the models’ well-made interiors and intuitive controls. Although the Kona is designed to be as affordable as possible, the materials used in the cabin still manage to combine quality, good looks, and an easy-to-use feel.

“In the subcompact segment, the competition sets a low bar,” Car and Driver noted. “But where mere goodness would suffice, the Kona is excellent. It is proof that not all crossovers are equal.”

The 2019 Hyundai Kona balances spirited performance with practical, versatile features. The 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric adds to that 258 miles of range and fast-charging capabilities for peace of mind on the highway. Both models offer a broad array of infotainment and safety technologies, including the standard Hyundai Smart Sense suite of driver-assist features.
