With so many eyes trained on the all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the C7 Corvette is showing that it’s still got plenty of life left in it for performance hounds. The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 picked up a pair of 2019 Sport Auto Award trophies in November, earning the top honors in the categories Convertibles/Roadsters under 150,000 Euros and Coupes under 150,000 Euros.

“We are proud and delighted to receive two prestigious Sport Auto Awards. They show the readers’ continuous appreciation of this exceptional sports car and are a fantastic send-off for the current Corvette generation that will soon make way for its new mid-engined successor,” said Chevrolet Performance Cars Europe Head of Public Relations Rene Kreis. Kreis accepted the award alongside product experience manager Patrick Herrmann.

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 won the title for convertibles and roadsters with a majority of 52.2 percent, toppling the Jaguar F-Type SVR and Maserati GranCabrio. The race was somewhat tighter among coupes, where the Z06 earned 38.7 percent of the vote to beat out the F-Type SVR and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

The 2019 Sport Auto Awards were the 27th entry in the German magazine’s year-end honors. This year, an estimated 12,352 readers voted in 18 production vehicle categories and 10 tuning vehicles categories, narrowing the field down from a total of 238 vehicles.

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 boasts a 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 that delivers 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

The upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the most powerful entry Corvette ever made, generating 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque at base. Already, the C8 Corvette has earned a spot on the Car and Driver 10Best list and the title of 2020 MotorTrend Car of the Year.
