2019 Subaru WRX

Subaru fans will have to wait another year before the fifth generation of Subaru WRX models hit the market in 2021.

Still, the 2020 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will arrive with some updates to their outside look, as well as safety features.

Why Consider: Buying a Subaru for your next vehicle

Exterior updates

Working from the ground up, Subaru has changed the color of its 18-inch aluminum wheels on the WRX S4 2.0 GT-S from Dark Gun Metallic to Black. Subaru gives the WRX STI Type S new 19-inch aluminum wheels and redesigned front fog lamp covers.

The front grille receives a redesign on both models.

Added safety features

Both the WRX and WRX STI feature a new rear trunk release, which will operate without the use of a key fob. Drivers will be able to open it, even when all car doors locked, for easy convenience.

For EyeSight on the 2020 Subaru WRX, Subaru has lowered the speed from which the high beam assist launches into action. The conventional speed lowers from 40 km/h to 30 km/h to improve safety measures for the vehicle.

See Why: Subaru has the safest vehicles for 2019

While these additions seem slightly underwhelming for a new model year, both the 2020 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will have a special edition model in the works.

Keep it right here on The News Wheel as we anticipate bigger news on the next-generation 2021 Subaru WRX STI coming in the future months.
