6 Kia Vehicles Awarded Top Safety Pick Ratings from the IIHS
On the heels of three award wins at the Chicago Auto Show, Kia has been praised yet again, this time by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Six vehicles from the Kia lineup were given the 2020 Top Safety Pick rating. When equipped with front crash prevention and specific headlights, the Forte, Sorento, Soul, Sportage, Stinger, and Telluride all qualify for the illustrious safety ranking.

“Kia is committed to building the safest vehicles possible,” said Kia Motors America president Michael Cole. “These six TSP ratings from IIHS reflect that commitment and reaffirms Kia’s continued effort to strive for safety improvement and advancement in every model we produce.”
Last year, 11 Kia models were awarded with IIHS safety ratings, including the Telluride, Soul, Rio 5-Door, Sorento, Rio, Stinger, Optima, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, Niro, Forte, and Cadenza. Seven of those 11 (bold) were even given the prestigious Top Safety Pick Plus rating.
To qualify for an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick rank, a vehicle must earn “good” ratings in tests of Crash Avoidance & Mitigation and Crashworthiness. Within those two areas of inspection are individual assessments; for Crashworthiness, each vehicle is tested on: small overlap front driver-side, small overlap front passenger-side, moderate overlap front, side, head restraints and seats, and roof strength. For Crash Avoidance & Mitigation, a vehicle is tested on: headlights, front crash prevention: vehicle-to-vehicle, and front crash prevention: vehicle to pedestrian.
However, if you’re one of those people who looks for more than just IIHS ratings, Kia offers a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program that consists of:
- 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty
- 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty
- 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty
- 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan
