$90 Million Powerball Winner Buys Subaru Forester
When car lovers talk about Ferraris, Bugattis, and Lamborghinis, you’ll often hear them preface any such discussion of their dream car by saying, “Boy, if I had a couple of extra million dollars just lying around…” Rarely do you hear that phrase attached to a Subaru Forester.
Yet Lisa Quam, a Washington state woman and $90 million Powerball lottery winner, has made acquiring the compact crossover one of her top priorities after being bumped up to a higher tax bracket last week. That and, according to Yahoo News, quitting her job at plane manufacturer Boeing Co.
“Sent out an email to my co-workers and friends at work this morning and told them what a pleasure it was to work with them and to check the news today, and they’ll come to an understanding of why I am writing this note,” Lisa Quam said in a news conference in Olympia.
Incredibly, when Quam bought the life-changing ticket on a whim during a Thanksgiving Day grocery run in Auburn, Washington, it was her first time ever playing the Powerball. (Man, talk about beginner’s luck!)
After taxes, Quam will be about $56.8 million richer, and says she will use that new-found wealth to pay off her family’s student loans, finance some home repair, maybe “buy a house for one of the kids,” and travel more. If road trips are what she’s looking forward to, then it stands to reason that a Subaru Forester would be a better choice than a $38 million 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Although, on the other hand…
