This summer has been a busy one for GM, here in the States. The brand has moved closer to achieving its zero-emission goal. It’s introduced the 2020 Chevy Corvette, as well as some exciting new packages and trim options, like the 2020 GMC Terrain Denali Premium Package.

Yet it’s also been a busy time for the brand overseas. GM Brazil Proving Ground recently celebrated its 45th birthday.

Known as Campo de Provas da Cruz Alta (or CPA), GM Brazil Proving Ground is considered one of the largest in the world, sprawling over 160,000 football fields. It boasts a total of 17 test tracks to help develop GM vehicles’ braking and steering systems, as well as suspension and engine calibrations. The site opened back in 1974 and has played an integral part in evaluating and refining the company’s products ever since.

Recently, GM invested more than $15 million into the site, as GM Authority reports. This supported a variety of state-of-the-art updates so CPA is equipped and poised to help GM develop safety, powertrain, and connectivity technologies for current and future models. In particular, the funds help finance a new test track as well as seven labs.

Good things to come

CPCA director Ricardo Farnucchi expressed pride at the complex’s achievements and confidence in its future endeavors. “GM’s Cruz Alta Proving Ground has reached a new level of leadership for the company thanks to development of a new global family of vehicles to come.”

We congratulate Campo de Provas da Cruz Alta for its achievements to date and look forward to its future contributions to GM models such as the Chevy Onix.
