Cadillac Sales Down in May as XT5 Begins Catching Up
Cadillac’s May sales declined 16% year-over-year at a total of 12,099 units, but given the continued phasing out of the SRX in favor of the newly-released XT5, there is quite a bit of positive to be pulled from a down number. Retail sales were down 10.8% at a total of 11,574 vehicles sold.
The brand sold 5,777 SRX crossovers in May 2015, a far cry from the 1,774 sold last month. However, in its first full month on the market, the SRX-replacing XT5 registered 2,719 sales. While the total of SRXs and XT5s sold—4,493—is still lower than the figure from May 2015, this can be reasonably expected as supply rises to meet demand and new consumers reconcile the change to the lineup.
Cadillac’s other new addition, the CT6 sedan, totaled 697 sales in May, bringing its to-date sales total to 1,017 units.
Another highlight for Cadillac in May was the Escalade and Escalade ESV. Escalade sales were up 14.8% at a total of 1,856 units, while Escalade ESV sales were up 4.1% at 1,087 units. To date, Escalade sales are up 3.5% at a total of 8,685 units, while sales of the Escalade ESV are flat at 5,372 units.
Sales of Cadillac’s other cars—the ATS, CTS, ELR, and XTS—all fell double digits. ATS sales were down 30.7%, CTS sales were down 39.6%, ELR sales were down 61.2%, and XTS sales were down 29.3%.
Through May, Cadillac sales in the United States total 58,968 units, down 12.5%. Retail sales are down 13% at 52,100 units delivered.
