“Under Ernesto’s leadership, GM started a profound transformation in Mexico, a change that is now consolidating our position as the most important and admired automotive company in the country,” said Barry Engle, GM’s executive vice president and president of the Americas. “We greatly appreciate Ernesto’s legacy and what he has contributed to GM over his stellar career and almost 40 years of service. As our company focuses on streamlining global operations, I see Francisco and Juan Carlos as the perfect leaders to continue our transformation in Mexico.”
Ernesto M. Hernandez leaves a legacy that includes becoming the first Mexican national to hold the position of president and managing director of GM de Mexico. He assumed that role in 2011, capping off a career that began in 1980 and included several positions in fields such as Product Engineering and Program Management. As the president and managing director of GM de Mexico, Hernandez oversaw operations in Mexico as well as Central America and the Caribbean.
Hernandez will remain an advisor for General Motors and assist in the transition process.
Francisco Garza joined GM in 2011 when he took on his most current role. As the vice president of Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing, Garza developed and implemented go-to-market strategies for GM’s brands while managing dealer relationships throughout the region. Prior to his stint in Vehicle, Sales, Service, and Marketing, Garza was the managing director of Ally Credit Mexico, which is now GM Financial.
Garcia has been with GM de Mexico since 2005. Most recently, he was appointed CFO of GM de Mexico in November 2015.
