If you’re sick of rude motorists, endless traffic jams, and poorly maintained roads (and aren’t we all), prepare to be envious of drivers in Calgary. They get to travel in the world’s best city for drivers, according to a recent study conducted by the U.K. auto parts seller Mister Auto.

Calgary tops Mister Auto’s 2019 Driving Cities Index with a perfect overall score of 100 out of a possible 100 total points. This annual index ranks 100 cities around the world based on 15 criteria in three categories: infrastructure, safety, and costs.

Take Care of Your Tires: Here’s why regular tire service is so important

  • The infrastructure category includes criteria like the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, public transportation options, and road quality.
  • The safety category includes a road rage score and fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants.
  • The costs category takes into account criteria like road taxes and the costs of gas and parking relative to average wages.

According to the index’s rankings, Calgary gets especially high scores for its low congestion and low costs for drivers. The city scored well on nearly every one of the 15 criteria, although there’s still room for improvement in areas like public transportation availability and traffic deaths.

Two other Canadian cities also show up in the top 10 of this year’s study. Ottawa is ranked No. 3 and Vancouver is ranked No. 6. Montreal appears at No. 28 and Toronto is No. 51. Mumbai, India, comes in last due primarily to high fatality rates, heavy congestion, and poor air quality.
