The current Mustang Mach-E is expected to remain available through at least 2027. A previous report also indicated that the model may not receive meaningful upgrades until after 2030, though Ford has not confirmed a second generation.
Ford addressed the question directly during a campaign promoting its new Universal EV platform. Asked whether the architecture would support a future Mustang Mach-E, the company replied: “No, it will not be used for the Mustang Mach-E.”
A New Platform Built Without The Mustang Mach-E
According to Carscoops, Ford described its Universal EV platform as a clean-sheet architecture designed to maximize vehicle efficiency. The platform will first be used for a compact pickup truck, which has already been spotted in the United States.
The same architecture is then expected to support several other Ford models. That makes the Mustang Mach-E’s exclusion notable, since a new platform would have been a logical foundation for a second-generation version.
Ford has not said that the Mustang Mach-E is ending. Yet the company’s statement leaves the model outside the architecture that will shape its next wave of electric vehicles.

Ford Admits Its First EV Strategy Had Flaws
Ford chief executive Jim Farley has said the automaker approached its first generation of electric vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E, in the “wrong way.”
That comment gives context to the company’s move toward a clean-sheet platform. Rather than adapting its existing EV strategy, Ford is shifting to an architecture designed from the start around efficiency.
For the Mustang Mach-E, that creates a difficult position. The model remains on sale, but it may eventually sit beside newer Ford EVs built on more advanced underpinnings.

The Electric Escape Could Narrow The Mach-E’s Role
The Mustang Mach-E could also face pressure from another Ford electric model later in the decade. The Ford Escape is reportedly set to return as an all-electric vehicle using the Universal EV platform.
That would place a newer electric crossover in Ford’s lineup, potentially reducing the space currently occupied by the Mustang Mach-E. The situation is especially sensitive because the F-150 Lightning is no longer on sale, leaving the Mach-E as Ford’s only current EV in America.
For now, Ford has not confirmed the end of the Mustang Mach-E. But with the company’s newest EV platform moving forward without it, the model’s second generation is no longer something buyers can take for granted.
