Study Finds the Ford F-150 to Be the Most Popular Vehicle in 22 States

Americans sure do love their F-150 pickups

For several years now, the Ford F-Series of trucks has reigned supreme as the best-selling vehicle in the United States. Given 2017’s overall sales results so far, that trend doesn’t show any signs of stopping. The Ford F-Series is not just the most popular vehicle in the nation overall. According to a survey conducted by Kelley Blue Book, the Ford F-150 is also the most popular vehicle in 22 states.

Kelley Blue Book’s findings are based upon new vehicle registrations that were issued by each state in 2016. The findings once again concluded that certain truck models, like the Ford F-Series, were registered most frequently in the majority of states.

Among the states that favor the F-150 more than any other vehicle are Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. Kelley Blue Book’s study showed that the F-150 surpassed any other model in terms of statewide popularity by a wide margin.

Other pickups that climbed their way to the top of certain states’ popularity listings include the Silverado 1500, its cousin the Sierra 1500, and the Toyota Tacoma, which was a big hit in Hawaii. It’s not all that surprising that trucks took up a large slot of the popularity polls, as with less trucks competing against one another, unlike the highly-saturated SUV and sedan segements, and a need for trucks in certain lines of work, drivers are likely to choose from the same pool of pickup options.

Also unsurprising is number of SUVs and crossovers on this year’s list. The Honda CR-V was the go-to vehicle in states like Pennsylvania and Virginia, while its rival, the Toyota RAV4, was a popular choice in Nevada and Massachusetts.

Passenger cars haven’t fallen out of favor in every single state

Even with the declining number of sedans out on the road, several models remained the most popular vehicles in various states. The Honda Civic was chosen most by drivers in Ohio and California, while Florida drivers selected the Toyota Corolla instead.
