The Lincoln Motor Company enjoyed its best start to a year in more than a decade in Q1 2019, delivering 24,975 vehicles in the United States for an 11.2 percent year-over-year gain. Lincoln’s success is entirely attributable to its strong SUV portfolio, which stands to grow even more this year with the addition of the three-row Lincoln Aviator and potential addition by year’s end of the soon-to-be-revealed Lincoln Corsair.

Leading the way was Lincoln’s newest product, the Nautilus, which combined with sales of the outgoing MKX to total 7,835 vehicles — up 25.8 percent year-over-year. The Lincoln Navigator, which was the hottest luxury SUV on the market last year, remained solidly blazing with a 10 percent year-over-year increase and sales totaling 4,469 vehicles. Sales of the 2019 Lincoln MKC, soon to be replaced by the Corsair, were also strong — up 18.2 percent at 5,787 vehicles delivered. Even the Lincoln MKT, effectively only hanging around as a livery vehicle, chipped in with a 142.6 percent year-over-year increase.

As might be expected, Lincoln car sales were a different story, dropping 16.6 percent with 5,642 sedans delivered. The Lincoln MKZ saw its sales drop 1.7 percent at 4,287 vehicles, while the Continental continued to spiral with 1,355 vehicles sold — down 43.7 percent from its Q1 2018 result. Both the MKZ and Continental are expected to exit the lineup within the next couple of years as Lincoln makes way for new products.

Lincoln finished 2018 with 103,587 vehicles delivered, down 6.8 percent from its 2017 sales.
