As if you needed any more reasons to be depressed about the fact that the Ford Focus ST hot hatch skipped making the jump across the Atlantic, there’s this: It’s won the coveted Hot Hatch of the Year award in the Top Gear Awards 2019. The Ford Focus ST earned a Top Gear Cog by demonstrating to Paddy, Freddie, and Chris among others that is “has no vices.”

By winning the Hot Hatch of the Year trophy, the Ford Focus ST ensures that the title stays under the Blue Oval. Last year, the Fiesta ST, which depressingly also isn’t coming to America probably ever again, took home the prize in the segment.

The award was picked up by Stefan Muenzinger, the European manager of Ford Performance.

Of the Hot Hatch of the Year, TopGear.com said: “The new Focus ST is simply a terrifically well-balanced car: no peaks and troughs, just consistent high scores across the board.” It was also said that the Focus ST has “no weaknesses,” though it’s hard to construe the fact that you can’t get one stateside as being anything but. Yeah, we get it, the Ford Focus ST is great. Stop rubbing it in, will ya?

But that wasn’t the only TG Cog Ford took home for 2019. The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, with all of its 760 horsepower, earned the title of Muscle Car of the Year. TopGear.com said called it “Bold, brash, designed to get your attention and be unapologetic about it … an assault on the senses — an addictive and welcome one in current times.”
