“We are honoured to accept this award from AJAC for the Nissan LEAF PLUS, and for the second year in a row. The Nissan LEAF is symbolic of not only the numerous benefits it provides to its customers, but also represents Nissan’s overall dedication to facilitate zero-emission mobility for generations to come,” says Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “The momentum continues to build for electric cars in Canada, and the AJAC Canadian Green Car of the Year Award shines a light on this important segment.”
Vehicles vying for the AJAC award must satisfy the organization’s requirements for fuel efficiency based on its size, purpose, and powertrain as well as how sustainable the vehicle is. The AJAC jury of more than 65 voters across Canada also factor in the criteria all vehicles must meet when competing in the Car of the Year awards.
Nissan has been a leader in sustainability for years. In addition to its popular LEAF, the automaker has developed initiatives to benefit and safeguard the environment.
“In 2018, we launched the Nissan Green Program 2022 midterm environmental plan, the pillars of which are Climate Change, Resource Dependency, Air Quality and Water Scarcity. We have made great progress in this regard, and appreciate that AJAC also considers this part of the company story when it comes to selecting the best green vehicles,” Milette added.
