The 2021 Chevrolet Tracker is GM’s newest entry in the entry-level subcompact crossover segment, but U.S. customers probably won’t have the opportunity to buy it.

The Tracker will be offered in Mexico for the new model year. According to GM Authority, it will replace the Trax, a similarly small crossover that’s been around since 2012.

The Tracker was first seen last year at the Shanghai Motor Show in China. It rides on GM’s new “Global Emerging Markets” (GEM) platform, which was devised as an efficient and budget-friendly basis for an array of foreign-market models.

“This model is based on current trends and features most valued by customers,” said Jorge Plata, the marketing director for GM Mexico. As examples of Tracker priorities, he listed athletic and urban-friendly design, efficiency, technological innovation, connectivity, and safety.

Similar in size to the U.S. market’s new Trailblazer crossover, the Tracker shows off a uniquely designed grille and LED daytime running lights in front and a sporty, sculpted look along the sides.

The Tracker’s interior includes available features like smartphone integration, wireless charging, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that can connect up to seven devices at a time. It’ll also offer OnStar emergency services and remote connectivity via the myChevrolet mobile app.

For passenger protection, the Tracker features a six-airbag configuration and crash-resistant body design. It also offers active safety technologies like frontal collision alert and automatic emergency braking for speeds under 50 mph.

It’s not clear yet where the Tracker will be manufactured, but GM Authority suggests that it’s likely to imported to Mexico from either China or Brazil.

GM says more information on the vehicle’s specs and features will be forthcoming soon. The 2021 Tracker should go on sale in Mexico sometime during the second half of the year.
