‘US News’ Names 2 Chevys to List of 13 Best Trucks for Towing
Deciding what truck to tow your trailer, equipment, camper, or boat just got easier thanks to the editors at U.S. News and World Report. Their list of the 13 Best Trucks for Towing includes not one, but two Chevy models — the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
Timeline of a Legend: The history of Chevrolet
2020 Chevrolet Colorado
Although the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado offers your choice of three powertrains, you’ll want the 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission combination for the best towing offered by the Colorado when it’s properly equipped — 7,700 pounds.
“This motor delivers not only the best towing capacity found in a compact pickup, it’s the Colorado’s most fuel-efficient motor, too,” according to U.S. News & World Report writer Nick Kurczewski.
The turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available on the LT trim of the 2020 Colorado, which also features the Trailering Package. A 2-inch receiver hitch with four- and seven-pin connector, automatic locking rear differential, seven-pin sealed connector, and seven-wire electric harness is included in the package, he adds.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
It’s no surprise that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is at the top of the U.S. News’ list of the best light-duty trucks for towing. When properly equipped, the 2020 Silverado 1500 delivers a maximum towing capacity of 13,400 pounds, a best in class rating.
To earn this towing capacity, Kurczewski notes that you’ll need to power your 2020 Silverado 1500 Double Cab model with standard cargo bed with the available 6.2-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower. It is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission rated at 460 lb-ft of torque. These ratings are best in class. Opt for four-wheel drive and the Max Trailering package. Twenty-inch wheels provide the powerful grounding for this towing beast.
Car Care 101: Tips for maintaining your tires
