Here’s the 2016 Cadillac CT6, Which is Definitely a Cadillac
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 has been revealed, and boy, is it ever a Cadillac. Just look at it, will ya?
Cadillac debuted the CT6 in full on Tuesday night just before the opening day of the New York Auto Show, reminding everyone of what we’ve already learned in the five-month walkup to the moment and adding some new information to the pool.
Cadillac says that the CT6 will have the size of a BMW 7-Series, but will weigh less than the 6-Series, 5-Series, or Mercedes-Benz E-Class thanks to the use of mixed materials in the structure and, yes, all-aluminum body panels. In addition to the availability of the 3.6-liter V6 and 3.0-liter Twin Turbo V6, the CT6 will come standard with the 265-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four. It will utilize active-on-demand all-wheel drive, Active Rear Steer, Magnetic Drive Control, and three selectable drive modes (Tour, Snow/Ice, and Sport).
“We reinvented the approach to structural underpinnings in the quest to develop a unique formula for the prestige luxury performance sedan,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “Melding that new approach with the dynamics conveyed in our other award-winning rear-driven sedans—including V-Series—results in something that has been lost in the segment: the exhilaration of a true driver’s car.”
Because the CT6 is a Cadillac, it looks and feels like a Cadillac (because of course). The interior is clean and well-organized, comprised of premium materials and featuring plenty of rear-seat legroom. On the outside, it’s got a long hood/short deck look more in keeping with Art and Science than anything suggested by the Elmiraj concept from a couple of years ago. Make of that what you will.
Innovative tech featured in the CT6 will include a 360-degree camera, surround-view video recording system (an industry first), Enhanced Night Vision, Rear Camera Mirror, Advanced Park Assist, and Pedestrian Collision Mitigation. As with all new GM vehicles, the CT6 will be offered with OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.
Cadillac says that production of the CT6 will begin around the end of the year, which might indicate a slightly later launch date than previously indicated. Models built at Detroit-Hamtramck will be exported to Europe, Korea, Japan, Israel, and the Middle East. The CT6 will be built for China in China at a new production facility in 2016.
