Chevrolet Bringing Back Cavalier as Compact Sedan for Chinese Market
Today Chevrolet announced the Chinese launch of an all-new compact midsize family sedan under the Cavalier nameplate. The new vehicle’s official debut will take place on September 2, 2016, at the Chengdu Auto Show.
This marks the first time that Chevy has used the Cavalier name in China. The new model will join the recently launched new-generation Cruze in the bowtie brand’s efforts to strengthen its portfolio in the Asian nation.
Chevy is targeting the Cavalier to drivers with young families in large and small cities across the country. The Cavalier will compete in the compact sedan segment, the second largest in the passenger vehicle market.
Chevy anticipates that the Cavalier’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine will provide class-leading fuel economy of 5.4 liters/100 km. Customers will be able to choose between a six-speed automatic DSS intelligent transmission and a five-speed manual transmission.
Built using Chevrolet’s new global design language, the Cavalier’s distinct profile features the brand’s signature dual-port grille and a stretched rear-end design. Inside, the Cavalier features dual-cockpit styling, with plenty of front-seat headroom as well as a comfortable back seat for passengers. Chevy China is also boasting about the Cavalier’s PM2.5 fine particulate matter air filter, which is designed with a customers’ comfort in mind.
The Chinese Chevy Cavalier’s driver-oriented center console has an integrated floating 7-inch HD touchscreen to provide users with a more interactive experience. Chevrolet’s new-generation MyLink infotainment system, which supports Baidu Carlife, is also part of the new car’s infotainment system.
