The annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction was held this past weekend, with plenty of fascinating vehicles on display for participants to bid on. GM took the opportunity to bring some vehicles of its own to the auction in order to help out a good cause.
Two separate Corvette models raised a total of $2.325 million for military veterans during the Barrett-Jackson auction.
GM Giving Back to Veterans: GM named a top employer for veterans
First up during the auction was a Corvette Carbon 65 Edition coupe, specifically the vehicle’s first production model. While that’s a special enough sports car as is, what really made it valuable was the fact that it was signed by President George W. Bush.
The Corvette coupe was sold for a total of $1.4 million. That money will benefit the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative, whose mission it is to ensure post-9/11 veterans receive the support they need while transferring to civilian life.
The second Corvette up for sale was the first retail model of the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZR1. The ZR1 is the fastest and most powerful production Corvette model ever built during the sports car’s long-standing history.
The Camaro ZR1 sold for a total of $925,000. Proceeds from this sale will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports wounded veterans through its Building for America’s Bravest program.
Providing Aid to Those Most in Need: Chevrolet helping Texas hurricane relief
“GM and Chevrolet are proud to honor and support the brave men and women of our armed forces,” said Steve Hill, GM vice president of U.S. Sales and Service. “We will be able to offer additional support to some of our most severely wounded veterans through the Bush Center Military Service Initiative and the Siller Foundation Building for America’s Bravest effort – both extremely worthy organizations.”
With the Chevrolet Corvette being a true American icon, it seems rather appropriate that the money raised during the auctions for these Corvettes will go toward helping some of America’s finest.
