Chevy Reigns Supreme in J.D. Power's Dependability Study with the Volt and Camaro

The 2014 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study results are in, and Chevy has good reason to be proud. Both its Volt and Camaro topped their respective segments, beating out tough competition. (We’re looking at you, Mustang.)

Chevy effectively crushed it in the dependability study with the Volt and Camaro, and the brand was not afraid to brag just a little: “One averages 900 miles between fill-ups; the other has outsold its closest sports car rival for four years.” Can you blame them for rubbing it in?

The dependability study evaluates cars that have been on the market for three years (since the 2011 model year) and takes into consideration how many problems drivers have experienced with them in the last 12 months. Obviously, the fewer problems reported, the more dependable the car.

The Volt killed the competition in the Compact Car segment. It boasts an advanced lithium-ion battery that gets a gas-free 38 mile driving range, allowing for a reported average of 900 miles between fill-ups at the pump. The Volt has also been the highest-ranked Compact Car for three years in a row in J.D. Power’s Vehicle APEAL Study and was the leader in Strategic Vision’s 2013 Total Quality Award for Best Midsize Car. It also holds the number one spot on the Sierra Club’s plug-in hybrid list and has been the best-selling plug-in vehicle for two years in a row.

The Camaro, which expands its lineup this year with a Z/28 (touting a 505-hp engine that makes this baby the fastest Camaro to date), beat out the Mustang in the Midsize Sporty Car segment. The Camaro lineup was refreshed for the 2014 model year with all-new front and rear fascias.

Edwards added, “Receiving coveted dependability rankings on two launch-year vehicles demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with first-class quality and customer experiences.”
