Electric vehicles continue to grow in popularity. So, it only makes sense that companies would start establishing and developing the infrastructure necessary to support them.

To this end, Electrify America recently announced that it will expand its charging network and infrastructure to more cities nationwide. The company’s expansion will continue over the next 2.5 years. Per Green Car Reports, EA will complete the first cycle of the project by June 30 of this year; the second cycle will begin July 1.

Objectives of cycle 1

So far, the first cycle has built a solid foundation upon which the second can elaborate. Planning and hiring were the primary objectives of this cycle. EA established a blueprint for the overall network plan last summer. The plan included charging stations along highways, as well as installing Metro and Metro Hub stations in key areas. The goal was to provide urban residents with greater access to electric vehicles. From now until June 30, the estimated completion date of cycle 1, EA will finish installing the chargers and metro stations outlined in the original sketch.

Goals for cycle 2

That’s when cycle 2 will take over. According to EA, the second cycle will emphasize installing more metro stations in the inner city. That way, residents can more easily access EVs as well as charging stations.

Per Green Car Reports, EA will expand metro stations and hubs to nine new cities in particular, including Honolulu; Atlanta; Las Vegas; and Boulder, Colorado. Additionally, it will increase the number of chargers installed in major cosmopolitan areas such as Miami, New York City, and Seattle.

Lastly, the second cycle will also involve establishing two pilot sites for charging autonomous vehicles. Some of these stations will provide renewable electricity to help keep charging costs low while reducing greenhouse gases.
