Ford Commercial Solutions and Avis Budget Group have entered into a partnership that will provide improved connectivity to the 14,000 Ford vehicles current a part of Avis’ fleet in Europe. By converting these Ford vehicles to provide telemetric data and be better managed through the Avis mobile app, customers of the rental service will be more inclined to partake in the Ford experience.

Last October, Ford and Avis entered into a similar deal in the United States to accommodate the over 35,000 vehicles offered as part of the rental giant’s fleet.

“Following the recent announcement of more than 35,000 Ford vehicles connected in our U.S. fleet, this expansion of a further 14,000 connected vehicles in Europe is testament to the relationship with Ford Commercial Solutions and a significant milestone in our commitment to have a fully connected global fleet,” said Valerie Chenivesse, Fleet Services Director – International, Avis Budget Group. “Connectivity allows us to increase efficiencies as a business, delivering a more streamlined and on-demand experience for our customers.”

Ford Commercial Solutions will provide embedded telematics that will allow Avis to provide customers with the ability to book their full rental experience via a handy mobile app. Implementing this technology allows renters to select their preferred Ford vehicle, upgrade their rental or extend service, and even schedule returns via the Avis app.

The upgrade will leverage Autonomic’s Transportation Mobility Cloud open platform, facilitating the relay of information from the vehicle to the app without needing to rely on third-party systems or hardware. The conversion process will reach 4,000 vehicles by the end of the year, and the remaining 10,000 vehicles are expected to be completed by the end of next year.
