Ford Commercial Solutions has reached an agreement with Avis Budget Group that will see 35,000 vehicles offered as part of Avis’ fleet to be rented, extended, and returned more easily via the Avis mobile app.

Ford anticipates that 10,000 vehicles offered as part of the Avis Budget Group fleet will be connected through the Ford Data Services telematics solution by the end of the year with an additional 25,000 vehicles expected to be connected by the end of 2019. This would allow thousands of customers to select the vehicles they wish to rent, extend rental times, and finalize vehicle drop-offs with as little as a tap of the app.

“With more than 100,000 connected vehicles in our Avis Budget Group fleet and growing, the relationship with Ford Commercial Solutions is a significant milestone in our commitment to achieve a fully connected fleet by 2020,” said Arthur Orduña, chief innovation officer, Avis Budget Group. “It allows us to expand our connected ecosystem and work with an organization that shares our mutual goal to push the boundaries of connectivity and innovation as we charge into a new era for mobility.”

The Ford Data Services tool will be connected via the Transportation Mobility Cloud created by Ford subsidiary Autonomic. This will allow the direct transfer of data directly through TMC to IT systems and telematic services without the need for added hardware, allowing better access to information that fleet operators need in real time.
