Dr. Derriere is An Actual Person on Ford’s Payroll

It may come to you as some surprise that there’s a guy in Ford’s employ who goes by the nickname Dr. Derriere. Does he have a vanity license plate that says ASSMAN? One could only assume and most certainly hope.
Dr. Derriere is Mike Kolich, the supervisor of the global seating and comfort team at Ford and a Ph.D. in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering with an emphasis on seat comfort. With his nose for details, he was able to ensure that he and his team delivered seats of only the highest comfort in the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer. The design of the new Explorer’s seats meet over 100 metrics for comfort, emphasizing shape and softness.

“Road trips can be largely defined by how comfortable people are — and when you get down to it, how comfortable our seats allow them to be,” said Kolich. “As engineers, we’re thrilled with this new seat, but really it’s what our customers say and think that matters.”
The new seating architecture used in the Explorer is applicable to all Ford vehicles moving forward, meaning more butt comfort for all butts in all Fords. The seats utilize a V-shaped design for more support for a wider range of body types, new front-row back panels help improve second-row roominess, and exclusive EZ-entry functionality makes getting into the third row a breeze.
Here’s hoping that Ford introduces Mike Kolich more broadly to the world with a Motley Crue parody video in which he sings that he’s the one they call Dr. Derriere, he’s the one who makes your butt feel all right, he’s gonna be your Buttenstein. They could totally have Robutt playing the Nikki Sixx part.
