Ford F-150 Raptor, Shelby Mustang GT350 Take Home 2018 MECOTY Awards

Two of Ford’s biggest performance products—the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor and Mustang Shelby GT350—are not just award-winners on their home turf. They both also came up big at the 5^th annual Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards, which were held in Abu Dhabi in April.

The Shelby GT350 took home the title of Performance Coupe of the Year, and the F-150 Raptor was named the Truck of the Year. Both vehicles are engineered to provide maximum performance—the Shelby GT350 excelling on the track, and the F-150 Raptor dominating off-road.

“We’re thrilled to see two of the most exciting and dynamic vehicles we produce excel in the MECOTY awards this year,” said Chris Probert, Ford Middle East and Africa’s director of Marketing Communications. “The Shelby GT350 is an incredible performance coupe, with a track ready chassis and high-revving [526-horsepower] V8 engine, while the F-150 Raptor continues to be the region’s favorite out-of-the-box performance truck for off-road extremes. Both models embody Ford’s passion for performance and resonate with millions of fans around the world.”

The MECOTY awards are determined by a panel of 16 journalists representing GCC and Levant. These experts select the winners of the awards through a multi-stage nominating process that narrows down the best option in each segment.

The 2018 Ford F-150 was a two-time winner in the Middle East last month, also taking home the title of Pickup of the Year from Dubai’s Wheels magazine.
