This past April, Ford celebrated 55 years of the inimitable Ford Mustang with celebrations around the globe and the announcement that the pony car was once again the world’s best-selling sports coupe in 2018. To extend that celebrating even further into 2019 and beyond, Ford has announced the launch of a new Ford Mustang55 special edition available exclusively for drivers in Europe.

“Mustang is one of an exclusive group of vehicles to achieve more than half a century of continuous production, and customers’ appetites for the world’s best-selling sports car show no sign of waning,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “Our new Mustang55 is the essence of Mustang, combining exciting performance, bold design, and comfort-enhancing technologies like our FordPass Connect on-board modem and B&O Sound System.”

Available in both fastback and convertible body styles, the Ford Mustang55 gets unique aesthetic elements like dissolving black hood and lower body-side stripes, a black roof for the hatchback, and 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels. For vehicles with Shadow Black exteriors, the black stipes are swapped for silver, and the convertibles get black cloth roofs. No matter the style, the Ford Mustang55 special edition gets the venerable 5.0-liter V8, which can be mated to a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

Thus far, it’s been a monumental 55th year of the Mustang with the announcement of both the 2020 Mustang 2.3L Performance Package, which will make the Mustang EcoBoost the most powerful four-cylinder sports car ever made by an American automaker, and confirmation that the upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500 will get an incredible 760 horsepower.

Ford of Europe also announced an enhanced version of its Mustang EcoBoost that will include Active Valve Performance Exhaust with Good Neighbor Mode as well as a Magnetic Grey California grill with a tri-bar pony badge. Both new Mustangs are slated to hit the market in August.
