Ford Gets Vote of Confidence as UK’s Top Brand for 2018
Ford once again stands as the No. 1 automotive brand in the United Kingdom, with 2018’s result marking 42 consecutive years of passenger car dominance and 53 straight years of commercial vehicle sales leadership. Ford achieved this feat with its best-ever year for commercial vehicle registrations and the 10th straight year of the Ford Fiesta ranking No. 1 in vehicle sales.
“I want to thank our customers for again putting their trust in Ford in 2018,” said Ford of Britain Chairman and Managing Director Andy Barratt. “Our sales success this past year provides us with a great base to build upon in 2019, and with great new vehicles to come — like the Focus ST and Active, plus the Transit — we are ready to reach new heights this year.”

Ford of Britain’s sales totaled 382,154 vehicles in 2018, down 6.1 percent from 2017. The year-over-year decline is attributable to an 11.6 percent drop in passenger car sales at 254,082 units. Commercial vehicle sales were strong, rising 7 percent to 126,072 vehicles registered and helping to increase CV market share by 2.5 percentage points to 35.3 percent. Because of the incredible performance of Ford CVs, overall market share remained flat at 14 percent.
The Ford EcoSport was the automaker’s fastest-growing vehicle in 2018 with sales up more than 62 percent and totaling 23,000 units. Ford Ranger sales rose more than 26 percent at 16,400 units, and sales will likely continue to rise in 2019 with the launch of the Ranger Raptor.
