Ford Promises Quieter Ride in F-650/F-750
When one thinks of taking a ride in a powerful heavy duty truck, one does not typically think of the quietness of the cabin. Ford is looking to change this perception drastically with the 2016 F-650 and F-750, which Ford touts as providing a surprisingly quiet and comfortable riding experience.
According to Ford, the in-house combination of Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine and TorqShift® heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission helps to lower engine noise, harshness, and vibration in the cabin. The decision to place the turbocharger in the valley of the engine block also contributes to a quieter ride, not to mention a far less harsh one.
Ford notes that the 2016 F-650/F-750 will be 25% quieter when traveling at 60 mph, dropping from 74 decibels to 68 decibels. At idle, sound drops 45% from 48 decibels to 63 decibels, thanks to special engine covers designed specifically to mask the ticking sound created by high-speed injectors.
“Our all-new F-650/F-750 medium-duty trucks are purpose-built to give our hardworking vocational customers maximum capability,” said John Ruppert, general manager, Ford Commercial Vehicle Sales and Marketing. “While the truck is able to work harder, we also made life inside the cab easier. Lowering in-cab and exterior noise levels improves driver comfort and minimizes disturbances while idling at work sites.”
