Ford Ranger Wins Eighth Straight Best Double Cab Bakkie Award from Car Magazine
The Ford Ranger continues to be South Africa’s go-to pickup truck, and its trophy case is seemingly always piling up with new riches. Earlier this month, the Ranger earned its eighth consecutive award for Best Double Cab Bakkie in Car Magazine’s Top 12 Best Buys Awards.
The Ranger has been the persistent top-selling double cab in South Africa for four years running and is the country’s top light commercial vehicle export. It’s also routinely one of the best-selling vehicles in South Africa, and the impending arrival of a new Ford Ranger will likely only continue that trend well into the future.

“What’s especially noteworthy is that the Ranger won this title once again, when the New Ranger is about to go on sale in South Africa,” said Doreen Mashinini, general manager of Marketing, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. “The latest model will introduce even higher levels of performance, efficiency, technology, refinement and comfort to the pickup segment.”
Ford also enjoyed a successful evening with three vehicles finishing runner-up in their respective categories. The Ford Everest was the second-best Large SUV/Crossover, the EcoSport was second-best in the Small SUV/Crossover category, and the Fiesta came in second in the Small Car category.
“It is a great honor to have four Ford nameplates named among the best vehicles currently on sale in South Africa,” Mashinini added. “It is, however, particularly gratifying to have the locally-built Ranger named the best Double Cab Bakkie for the eighth year in a row.”
The new Ford Ranger boasts a number of major updates and upgrades, including the addition of a new bi-turbo 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine and standard Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. The latest version of the Ranger also marks the long-awaited debut of the performance-oriented Ranger Raptor.
