Ford Remains UK’s Top Brand Through June
With six months in the books, Ford once more stands tall as the UK’s No. 1 brand in total vehicle, car, and commercial vehicle sales.
Ford has thus far sold 145,541 cars in the UK, putting the Blue Oval 32,155 vehicle registrations ahead of the second-place brand. As ever, the Fiesta has proven a considerable force to be reckoned with: It ranks No. 1 in UK car sales with registrations totaling 56,415 and a 6 percent retail share, outpacing its closest rival by 16,485 sales and 1.3 percentage points of total market share.
Ford Performance: Ford Mustang dominates global market for pony cars yet again
“Fiesta is in its 10th year as the UK’s best-selling car, and this month sees the arrival of the new Fiesta ST in dealer showrooms — our hottest version yet,” said Ford of Britain Chairman and Managing Director Andy Barratt. “Customers don’t have long to wait either until the all-new Focus, our most technologically advanced vehicle, hits the showrooms. It really is an exciting time for us with so many great products coming to market and we are seeing the private buyer respond to that, and our retail share is increasing.”
Ford’s retail share in June was 12 percent and sits at 12.8 percent thus far on the year.
Light commercial vehicle sales for Ford increased 11.9 percent in June at 13,188 vehicles registered, bringing the total number of LCVs registered in 2018 to 64,393. Ford currently holds a year-to-date market share of 35.6 percent, up 3.4 percentage points from its share through the first six months of 2017. Perhaps most impressive of all, Ford has managed this despite a 2.3 percent overall downturn in the UK LCV market.
Seven Ford vehicles ranked atop their respective segments in June sales: Fiesta, Fiesta Van, Ranger, Tourneo Custom, Transit, Transit Courier, and Transit Custom.
