With the eyes of the auto world turned to Tesla and the long-awaited reveal of its Model Y crossover, Ford decided to have a little bit of fun and tease the masses with the suggestion that it might have some news of its own.

Do You Need It? What’s the importance of having your oil changed?

Just two minutes after Tesla’s livestream of the Model Y reveal went live, Ford tweeted “Hold your horses,” accompanied by a photo of an electric blue Mustang pony emblem. The logo seems to match the same image spied in the “Built Ford Proud” commercial that began airing last fall, but the intention was almost certainly to suggest that Ford might have some news on its Mustang-inspired battery-electric performance crossover once tentatively dubbed the Mach 1.

It would seem, however, that Ford was just doing some good, old-fashioned trolling. No further info about the performance crossover or the Mustang Hybrid or a Mustang Electric or any sort of Mustang anything was revealed. Ford must have just done it for the lulz and to dab on its haters and so on.

The Mustang-inspired BEV is most certainly coming, though it’s not known when we can expect a firm look or information. What’s already known: It will ostensibly combine the DNA of the Mustang and Explorer, it will provide a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge, and, per Executive Chairman Bill Ford, it will “go like hell.”

Until such a time where Ford’s performance battery-electric crossover gets unveiled, it will be Ford who is holding the horses.
